Canon C300. what a dud! We are thrilled to see that Canon can’t get their act together. All the more power to Red. We might have tunnel vision but Red has never disappointed us. We also love the higher bit rate, the better resolution and features of the Scarlet not to mention a more attractive camera price wise not to mention that it will be available sooner.

No need for heavy duty tripods anymore with the Scarlet. This is not the Red One or an Alexa. A regular tripod is all you need, even with a larger Zoom (except of course if you use a 24-290 mm Angenieux or a heavy zoom with long rods).

We see the Scarlet as a phenomenal alternative to the F3 Sony which is a bulky, not so convenient camera for the filmmaker on the move. Besides we don’t really care for the Sony sharp and video-ish look. Something the Red line of Cameras, including the Red One, Epic and Scarlet gets away from.

A great package for the filmmaker on a tight budget is a Scarlet with either a Red One 17-50 mm Zoom lens or an Angenieux 25-250 mm T2. We know the T2 it’s an older glass but sure looks wonderful and incredibly helpful on overal expenses. That is a hard package to beat !

If you have not worked with the GH-2 Panasonic, what an impressive camera, those in the know have taken full advantage of this wonderful DSLR particularly when coupled with a Novoflex Nikon adaptor. The sky is the limit in terms of lenses and the camera is unbelievable. Better than the Canon 7D. Hands down. Hard to believe but true. We’ve seen and compared. An exceptionally helpful feature is the ability to look at the LCD and through the viewfinder instantly. A feature in the camera senses your eyes and switches automatically. Beautiful ! This camera is a blast. It is a shame it has not gotten more attention.

The Tokina 11-16mm is an extraordinary lens. Really! So good Duclos lenses modifies it to become a Cine Style lens with amazing results. We love the staight Nikon and Canon lens version. It works wonders on the Scarlet with Canon Mount and the GH-2 with the Novoflex Nikon Adaptor. The focus ring is a delight as well.

We’re aware they are numerous mounting options on the market and we tried them all. However nothing beats the U-Grip system. We’re not sure whey they are not as popular as some other brands. We suspect that they are much more expensive but they are well worth it. They are incredibly well made, all machine work and versatile as well not to mention extremely light. They are worth considering if you plan to do a lot of hand held.

We carry 64, 128 and 256 GB Red SSD drives. We recommend the 64 GB and 128 GB. It is better during the shooting day. You don’t have to wait forever to downlaod. We just think that it makes the whole downloading process easier. The Red SSD Drives 256 GB are great if you plan on very long interviews.
